The recent naming of the cardiovascular hospital after His Excellency, Sir Dr.Peter Odili, former governor of Rivers State by Governor Nyesom Wike has been described as a mark of respect for an elder statesman and uncommon leader.
These observations were made by Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, former commissioner for Transport and Aviation during the administration of Dr. Peter Odili, who agreed with Governor Wike’s description of Dr. Odili as the political father of the young generation of Rivers politicians.
Speaking on the sidelines of the foundation laying of the Cadiovascular centre in Port Harcourt named after Dr. Peter Odili, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh described his eight years in office as eventful, while lauding Governor Nyesom Wike for his patriotism, respect and appreciation of those who had led the state in the past.
Barr. Glory Emeh said: “You recall that, it is not in the habit of our young leaders to honour those who were there before them.
“This is why, it is commendable to witness what we are seeing today. It is also a statement of fact that Governor Wike was not the only politician that the former governor, Dr. Peter Odili mentored.
“Governor Wike has shown to the world that there are still persons with conscience and character, by celebrating the legendary elder statesman; a medical doctor of repute and outstanding politician, Sir. Dr. Peter Odili.
“We want to thank Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for the initiative and pray that God should replenish and grant him long life so that those after him will also honour him as he has honoured Odili today. You can see the number of persons who have passed through Dr. Peter Odili in his political career and practice of medicine”, Barr. Emeh emphasized.
Meanwhile, in his response at the occasion, Dr Peter Odili had said: “On befall of my wife, I and our beautiful daughters, we can’t thank Governor Wike enough for this honour.
“You have performed better than all the Governors before your Excellency. Our prayer is that our good Lord should grant you love in the same measure from those coming behind you”.
