Anxiety Mounts As Family Of Late Chima Ikwunado, Police, Nigerians Await Autopsy Report

Anxiety is mounting as, relations and family members of late Chima Ikwunado who died in police detention at Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt await the outcome of autopsy conducted on the deceased victim last week.

National Network gathered that the invitation of the leadership of Ikoku motor spare parts dealers by the Department of State Service (DSS), Rivers State Command, may not be unconnected to the measures by the security agency to ensure with the result of the autopsy does not ignite crisis.

A dependable source revealed to our reporter that the security agencies in the state is not sparing any effort to ensure peace reigned should the result of the autopsy show he was tortured to death while in detention.

The Pathologist of Rivers State Police Command, Dr. Stephen Musa while conducting autopsy on late Ikwunado in the presence of the deceased family, Civil Society Organizations, Ikoku motor spare parts dealers revealed that no previous autopsy was conducted on late Ikwunado as claimed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Benson Adetuyi, Commander of Eagle Crack Unit.

There was outrage following the revelation made by the Police pathologist. Many Civil Society Organizations and interest groups such as Ikoku spare parts dealers intensified their call for the redeployment of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Dandaura Mustapha for alleged lack of supervision. The group argued that the Police leadership failed to show due diligence when they went on air to announce that result of autopsy conducted on late Ikwunado showed he died of high sugar without citing the report.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Omoni in a bid to assuage the public explained that the command was mislead by SP Adetuyi who lied to the State and Force Headquarters that the deceased died of high sugar.

DSP Omoni also revealed that the Commissioner of Police will address the press and general public as soon as the autopsy report is out.

Meanwhile, late Ikwunado family who witnessed the preliminary autopsy conducted on the deceased victim last week claimed his body was full of bruises and injuries which suggested he may have been tortured to death.
