Put Bori General Hospital To Immediate Use, No Delay, Gov Fubara Directs

Rivers State Governor, Sir. Siminalayi Fubara, has commissioned the Bori Zonal Hospital, a facility initiated by the administration of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi but abandoned and later partially completed by the immediate past administration.

During the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday 12, March 2025 at Bori, Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare, wellbeing, education, agriculture, security, and protection of the people.

The governor highlighted the significance of secondary healthcare services in alleviating pressure on teaching hospitals.

He noted that the zonal hospitals, including the one in Bori, underwent reconstruction and expansion to meet contemporary healthcare standards.

“We not only renovated the building but also ensured that all necessary equipment and facilities were installed,” he explained.

The hospital’s expansion, as outlined by the Commissioner for Health, demonstrates the administration’s dedication to enhancing the health and wellbeing of the people.

Governor Fubara urged the Commissioner for Health and the Health Management Board to ensure the hospital’s immediate utilization. “With all necessary equipment in place, there is no justification for delay,” he emphasized.

The governor also encouraged the youths and women of Rivers State to remain resilient, assuring them that his administration will continue to work tirelessly for their benefit.

Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, highlighted the significance of the Zonal Hospital, Bori during its commissioning ceremony, stating that “the facility is a proof of  the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Rivers State.”

She emphasized that the hospital’s completion demonstrates the administration’s dedication to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure and network in the state.

The Zonal Hospital, Bori is a 105-bed secondary healthcare facility situated in Bori, Khana Local Government Area.

The hospital is housed in a 3-storey building, accompanied by support buildings including laundry, mortuary, and staff quarters.

The facility’s location is strategic, attracting a high patient traffic and serving as a referral centre for primary and smaller secondary healthcare facilities in Rivers Southeast senatorial district.

The hospital’s objectives include providing referral secondary healthcare services, strengthening the healthcare infrastructure and network, and reiterating the government’s commitment to the health status and wellbeing of the people.

The facility boasts a range of amenities, including a reception/ outpatient clinic, laboratories, operating theatres, and intensive care units.

The hospital’s layout is designed to provide a serene and wellness-inspiring ambience, with lush green lawns and ample parking space.

Ambassador Marvin Yobana, representative of Dorny Services, the contractor, commended the project’s success, stating that it began nine months ago and was awarded to indigenous contractors from various senatorial districts.

“These contractors performed exceptionally well, resulting in the completion of Nigeria’s most modern hospital, situated in Bori.

The hospital’s equipment was supplied by an internationally recognized medical outfit, ensuring that it can handle a wide range of medical services, thereby reducing the need for medical tourism abroad.

This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology and staffed by highly trained professionals, providing top-notch healthcare services to the people of Ogoni and surrounding communities.”

 Ambassador Yobana expressed his team’s readiness to deliver more projects, emphasizing that competent indigenous professionals, including Ogoni and Rivers State sons, are capable of delivering exceptional results, having worked internationally and honed their expertise and competence.

He thanked His Excellency for showcasing their work and wished him continued success, saying “may God bless you and may He cause all your enemies to live long and see your victories.” he stated.

Hon. Martins Nwigbo, the immediate past chairman of Khana Local Government Area, commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for prioritizing the wellbeing and welfare of the people of Khana and Rivers State at large.

According to Nwigbo, Governor Fubara’s commitment to developing Khana and Ogoni is evident in his deliberate focus on constructing roads and other infrastructure projects.

Nwigbo expressed his gratitude to the governor for the commissioning of the Bori internal roads project, which he described as evidence of the governor’s dedication to improving the lives of the people.

Nwigbo also stated that Ogoniland would soon become a hub for medical tourism, and the economy of Khana would experience tremendous growth.

He urged the people of Khana to remain united and stand firm in their support for the governor, who is committed to delivering more dividends of democracy to them.

Nwigbo warned against being deceived by detractors, emphasizing that Governor Fubara’s leadership was divinely ordained and that no one had the power to remove him from office.

He expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to continue transforming Khana and Rivers State, praising his visionary leadership and commitment to grassroots development.

Mrs. Helen Chiorlu, Head of Local Government Administration, Khana LGA, said that the commissioning of the Zonal Hospital was “a testament to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commitment to transforming the lives of Rivers State residents”.

 She added that the hospital, situated in the heart of Khana LGA, “will provide world-class medical services to the people of Khana and surrounding communities, significantly improving healthcare delivery in the area”.

Mrs. Chiorlu reportedly expressed her “deepest gratitude” to Governor Fubara for the hospital, describing it as “an incredible gift”. She also assured the Governor of the people’s continued support, saying that they were “confident that under his leadership, Rivers State will continue to make strides towards sustainable development”. she stated.
