The entire Ogoni race has been thrown into mourning following reported death of Chief Monday Abueh, a retired Assistant Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs Services.

Chief Monday Abueh hailed from Okwali, Nyokhana, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The news of his death was first reported on a popular Ogoni platform called Ogoni Peoples Assembly (OPA), at 2:48am in the early hours of Tuesday, June 7, 2022 with a terse message from one of the administrators: “Chief Monday Abueh was an active participant of OPA. He made several contributions to the programmes of OPA. Today, it is sad to announce to this great house that Chief Monday Abueh, former Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs has just passed on. May his soul rest in peace”.

According to Rev. Probel Williams, “He once told me that he was battling with colon cancer. I learnt he was flown overseas, India precisely but returned to the country few days ago when the situation deteriorated and kicked the bucket yesterday”.

He referred National Network to a prominent Ogoni leader and also a retired customs officer, Lenu Kpagih for more details.

Attempts to get Lenu Kpagih on phone failed as our calls were not answered and also not returned as at press time.

National Network gathered through an unconfirmed source that Chief Monday Abueh was critically ill and rushed out of the country first to Israel and later to Germany.

He was brought back according to the source to Nigeria two weeks ago and died yesterday in Abuja. Details of his death were sketchy at the time of filing in this report  and will be reported in detail in next edition of National Network.
