EMOLGA Council Bans Illegal Community-Based Vigilante Groups

…Sends Strong Warning To Obelle, Ibaa Communities Over Rumoured Recruitment Of Illegal Vigilante Groups

The Emohua Local Government Council has banned the activities of community-based vigilante groups across the local government area.

Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr Chidi Lloyd who stated this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bright Jossy-Elendu, said the only internal security outfit acceptable in the area is Emohua Local Government Vigilante Services (EMOVIS) which is backed by law and regulated by the Local Government Council, reiterating the disbandment of the activities of the defunct OSPAC vigilante group across the Local Government Area.

Dr. Lloyd warned against the training of youths from any community in Emohua LGA by the ONELGA security outfit otherwise referred to as OSPAC, stressing that it is only Emohua Local Government security advisory committee that is legally empowered to recommend and nominate any profiled individual or group for training and recruitment into the Local Government Vigilante Services.

The council chairman particularly sent a strong warning to Obelle and Ibaa communities in Emohua LGA over the rumoured training and recruitment of illegal vigilante groups in Omoku purportedly sponsored by the communities, in contravention of the laws establishing Emohua Local Government vigilante Services.

The EMOLGA Council boss further enjoined the authorities of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Council and its internal security outfit (OSPAC) to invalidate any application from any community in Emohua LGA seeking to train selected persons as members of vigilante, emphasizing that Emohua Local Government Vigilante Services cannot recommend or nominate anyone or group for training and recruitment without proper profiling by security agencies.

Dr. Lloyd further vowed to deal decisively with any Traditional Ruler, Council of Chiefs, CDC or any individual found culpable in connection with the sponsorship of illegal community vigilante groups in Obelle and Ibaa communities, and any other community in Emohua LGA, no matter how highly placed.
