Upata Traditional Council Sets Up Committee, Charts Way Forward 

As part of efforts to chart the way forward for Upata Kingdom in terms of development and economic growth, members of the Upata Traditional Council (UTC) converged on the Civic Hall of the Udho Nye Udu Upata, for their first meeting of the year 2023.

The UTC meeting which held on Saturday, January 14, was fully attended and was presided over by HRM, Nye Udu Felix Enene Otuwarikpo,  Nye-ishi Ele Upata Lowetu li Nye Udu Upata III of Upata Kingdom, alongside the six clan heads.

The meeting considered numerous development programs and announced the setting up of a Committee that will spearhead the building of the proposed Upata Central Market at Edeoha Town. A technical and advisory team was also set up to assist the market committee realize set goals.

Accordingly, the plan is to build a market that will have significant impact on the people’s economy, provide employment for many and it will, when completed, maintain substantial positive impact on the people’s social welfare.

Security and the overall wellbeing of the Upata people were deliberated on and, Chief Gowon Webber Okoko, Nye Udu Ula Idoke, was inducted into the Upata Traditional Council.

The Council also honoured the United Football Club of Edeoha, Buffalo Football Club of Ula Upata and Ihuowo Football Club, with cash reward for coming top in the 2022 Upata Unity Football Competition.

Edeoha team won the cup, Ula Upata came second and Ihuowo came third. Non Indigenes Football Club also received cash gifts as winners of the third place in the Chairman’s Cup.

Also, the alleged obnoxious role played by some Upata indigenes that gave rise to the denigration of the revered traditional Stool of the Upata people was considered.
