RSGovt Withdraws Criminal Charge Against Reps Member, Ephraim Nwuzi
A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has struck out the criminal suit by the Rivers State Government against a National Assembly member, Ephraim Nwuzi.
Trial judge, Justice Okogbule Gbasam struck out the matter against Nwuzi, after the Rivers Government through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor informed the court of the state government’s resolve not to prosecute the accused.
It could be recalled that the APC chieftain re-contested for the seat but lost to PDP’s Kelechi Nworgu.
Counsel to Nwuzi, Tuduru Edeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria did not object to the application of the prosecution counsel.
The trial Judge, Justice Gbasam struck out the suit and directed that the accused be released from the Nigerian Correctional Center to his home.
Nwuzi, who represents Etche-Omuma Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, was arrested two days before the election after operatives of the Nigeria Police invaded his home in his community in Etche.
Nwuzi’s arrest followed a video which was circulated on social media, showing him making threats to kill officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC who will be serving in the just concluded general elections.
