…Explains Why Rivers People Voted Massively For Fubara
Former Secretary to the Rivers State Government and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Kenneth Kobani, has applauded the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Magnus Abe for withdrawing his petition at the Election Petition Tribunal against the election of governor-elect, Sir Siminialayi Fubara.
Kobani told journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday that the withdrawal was a display of sportsmanship, and urged him to use the opportunity and speak to other candidates to follow his example, and withdraw their cases against the election of Siminialayi Fubara.
“I believe Abe did so on his own volition, and being a wise man, must have realized how difficult it was going to be for him to win this case. That being what it is, I want to commend him for placing the interest of Rivers State first.
“I hope that he will also speak to those of his ilk who are so misguided as to think that they can win their case at the Tribunal, when it is obvious that Siminialayi Fubara was elected after a massive turnout of voters”, he said.
The former Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Industry under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, explained that no other party would have won the election of March 18 in Rivers State other than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He described the outcome of the election as a referendum on the performance of Governor Nyesom Wike.
His words, “Rivers people voted massively for Sir Siminialayi Fubara because they want a continuation of the wonderful works that the gentleman had done. So, it is no surprise that those who lost went round looking for where to get the evidence to present at the tribunal, because at the end of the day, the Rivers people spoke boldly and clearly that Siminialayi Fubara is their choice and successor to Wike. I sympathize with those who thought they will win an election against this kind of background”.
Kenneth Kobani further urged Senator Abe to tune down on his demarketing of Rivers State, adding that the Wike led administration has done so much to protect lives and properties in the state.
“I want to thank him being the gentleman that he is, but I appeal to him to lay off this argument of demarketing Rivers State. It is not helpful when you go out and say that the security problems in Rivers State are attributable to the government in power.
“The government in power has done tremendously well, and I hope he now understands that the release of Okey Wali shows that the government has not been asleep in ensuring that Rivers State is safe. I pray that my brother also appreciates that we are all on this side waiting to receive him back to his fold”, he said.
