R/S Liaison Officers Commend INEC

The Forum of Governor’s Liaison Officers in Rivers State have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for the agency’s courage in conducting the March 9, 2019 governorship and State House of Assembly elections despite what they described as unwarranted disruption of the process by the opposition and intimidation by the military.

The forum in a press statement signed by its chairman Ebere Gibson Owhonda and Publicity Secretary, Godpower Duke, also commended the INEC for having the courage to resume the collation of results in the State for eventual conclusion of the election despite intense pressure from various quarters.

It equally used the opportunity to condemn calls in some quarters for the redeployment of the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Obo Effanga and the current Commissioner of Police, Usman Belel by few individuals who it noted did not mean well for Rivers State.

The Liaison Officers, a collection of PDP supporters at the grassroot, in the statement call on INEC to speedily collate and announce the Units results across the various LGAs in line with the Electoral Act provisions without much ado.

The Forum affirmed that as law abiding citizens, they advise members of the opposition parties especially APC/AAC alliance to eschew violence and embrace peace and allow INEC and Rivers State Police Command to discharge their professional duties in the best interest of the State.

The Forum equally called on the 88, 600 Unit Liaison Officers to be at alert, should there be any attempt by detractors to disrupt the smooth and peaceful collation and winner announced.
