VOX POP: Wike’s 2nd ‘Missionary’ Journey

After the recent political debacle that played out in the oil-rich Rivers State which culminated in the eventual declaration of Governor Nyeson Wike as the winner, we went to town to feel the pulse on what they think about of the people Governor Wike’s re-election. Below is their response :

My governor is a very humble Governor. I congratulate him on his victory. He has won the battle. The Lord will empower him to fulfil all what he has for Rivers State. I call him BULLDOZER. May God perfect all that concerns him and his family in Jesus name Amen.

I’m really happy for our beloved governor, I am personally grateful to God for Governor Wike in all the developmental projects in the state, and I will plead with him as he kick starts the Ogu-Gbolo internal road projects, please he should also remember the Buguma internal road projects at the sand field. This will greatly ease movement in the Land.

Governor Wike’s re-election is an indication that he is a better politician than everyone of the candidates that contested. In terms of human capacity development, I won’t score him high. And in terms of infrastructural development, he is doing well.

Governor Wike is one governor that has brought so much development into Rivers state. Just as his nickname “Mr Project”, the governor has started and completed many projects. Roads and electricity has improved considerably, compared to what we used to have then. And this has helped most of us married women to preserve our food. In summary, his re-election is a well-deserved victory for everyone in Rivers state, both indigenes and non indigenes.

I want to start by congratulating governor Wike on a well-deserved victory. He is an outstanding governor. He has done so much in terms of education, infrastructural development, and many more. We sincerely hope he will do more in this second term than he did in his first term. We hope he creates more employment opportunities, provide better security, and make Rivers state better than it is now.

Tariebi D, CEO

I have experienced governor Wike for the past 4 years. He has not really done much other than a couple of roads which are nothing but face-value projects. The systems are not functioning, things are not working.  Governor Wike is more of a politician than an administrator. Go into the streets, and you will see the deplorable condition of some roads. The civil service is also not working, as pensions are not being paid. In the days of Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers was clean, neat, and there were no heaps of refuse. But since Wike took over, we started seeing heaps of refuse everywhere. So I would say I haven’t really seen any positive change or major impact that governor Wike’s administration has had on the masses.
