Commendations As RSG Extends Sakpenwa – Bori Road To Kono
For the people of Kono and adjoining communities in Khana Local Government Area, it is dream come true, as the Rivers State Government has extended the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Unity Road to terminate at Kono.
The cheery news came at the weekend during a solidarity visit to Governor Wike by the Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Jaja and his Council of Chiefs.
The Governor revealed that key aspects of the Sakpenwa-Bori Road have been completed, with streetlights installed, adding that they have extended the dualisation of the road to Kono Town.
Project Engineer for Sakpenwa-Bori Road, Femi Fatola said that final works on the last two kilometers of the extension of the road are ongoing, adding that the contractor is primed to deliver project in line with approved specifications.
The construction of the Kira-Nonwa-Barayira-Sime-Eteo Road in Tai Local Government Area is nearing completion. This is a key economic road aimed at empowering the people.
Recall that Governor Wike had declared that completion of the road will be delivered as part of the first year anniversary of his second term.
True to his promise, the Governor last week released funds to the contractors to mobilise to site and work towards completing the road.
During his first term, Governor Wike was able to ensure that motorists drive into the ancient Opobo Kingdom, the first since the existence of the Kingdom.
With the resumption of work, the contractor is expected to conclude the earthworks, stone-base and asphalt of the remaining parts of the Opobo Axis of the Unity Road.
Project Engineer for Raffoul Nigeria Limited, Tunde Taiwo said that the Opobo Axis of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road will be delivered by mid April 2020. He said that construction work will be carried out in different aspects to complete the road.
Chairman of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area, Mr. Eugene Joshua Jaja commended the Rivers State Governor for fulfilling his promise to the Leaders of the Kingdom.
Also speaking, a resident of Opobo, Mrs. Priscilla Jaja expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Governor for intensifying work on the Unity Road. She said Opobo people are happy that they have already started using the road. She prayed God to protect Governor Wike to deliver the project.
For the Andoni axis of the Unity Road, the Rivers State Government has also intensified work to ensure that the last bridge to Ngo town is completed before May 29, 2020.
Engineer Taiwo said that the company has started work on the last bridge to Ngo Town, the headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area. He said all the processes for the completion of the road have been stimulated since the State Government released additional funds.
The 10.2 Kilometre Road cuts Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas of the state. The road was abandoned for 50 years.
The Rivers State Government has developed these roads to grow the economy of Rivers South-East Senatorial District. The roads link the area to markets in Port Harcourt, Aba and Akwa Ibom State.
The State Government has also delivered the Kpopie-Bodo Road in Gokana Local Government Area. The road was fitted streetlights.
Also in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District are key projects in the health and education sector. They include: Zonal Hospital, Bori, General Hospital Bodo, General Hospital Opobo, General Hospital Ngo, reconstruction of basic education schools in all the Local Government Areas.
Site Engineer for the Zonal Hospital, Bori, Deekae Dornubari said that the project is ninety percent completed. He said that the contractor is engaged in finishing touches, adding that the project will be delivered by the ending of December.
