Sanitation Exercise: Oyigbo Residents Lauded For Massive

The Oyigbo Local Government Council chairman, Hon. Prince Gerald Oforji (JP) has commended residents and people of the area over what he described as impressive turnout and participation of his people in the last month’s state-wide sanitation exercise.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the exercise in Oyigbo, the Council boss who was represented by the Council Secretary, Chief Gordson Ndubuisi Nwachukwu said the overall participation of the people in all the areas monitored especially in the Eke Oyigbo market showed commendable improvement due to the continuous awareness created, adding that before the sanitation day, he personally sent out a statement reminding them of its importance.

Chief Nwachukwu explained that, the sanitation monitoring team which he is supervising was concentrating on the market area because that is where the majority of debris is being generated from.

According to him, “we also made several trucks and pay loaders available to ensure that whatever dirt or debris being scooped out from the gutter is immediately evacuated to the  down-below (dumpsite).

The Council Secretary also informed that the market executives are fully involved in the supervision for full compliance and that the law enforcement agents with them have made some arrests for the deterrent of  recalcitrant members of the public.

He complained that most of the challenges they faced during the sanitation exercise is the obstruction caused by some company workers said to be with permit cards.

Chief Nwachukwu made it known that with time, the council will institute an awards for the cleanest community during the monthly sanitation exercise to encourage the people to develop interest in cleaning their environment.
