Two patent medicine dealers (aka Chemists) in Port-Harcourt are now in trouble following their arrest and detention by The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Sources said the two chemists were arrested on Thursday by the NDLEA at their shops located at Owo Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port-Harcourt over peddling of illicit drugs such as Tramadol among others.
National Network checks gathered that seven NDLEA officials in a white Hilux patrol vehicle stormed the street at about 5:30pm following weeks of discreet investigation on the modus operandi of the patent medicine dealers.
Our source explained that the NDLEA officials were able to infiltrate customers of the chemists who reportedly gave them clue on how to carry out the arrest since the patent medicine dealers do not transact the illicit drug business with persons who are not known to them.
The NDLEA officials reportedly recovered large quantities of Tramadol and other illicit drugs from the shop of the patent medicine dealers.
Our source, a resident in the street told National Network that they started suspecting the patent medicine dealers because almost all the customers that patronize them are young men and students of a higher institution close to the street.
The anonymous resident said he was not surprised at the arrest of the chemist by NDLEA officials.
Our reporter who visited the scene saw officials of NDLEA leading two of the patent medicine dealers whose shops are located at different points in Owo Street inside their patrol van. The head of the team that came for the arrest declined to speak when our reporter approached him for comment.
As at the time of filing in this report, the two chemist shops were under lock and key.
