Students Reject Online Exams In Rivers College Of Health Science
…. Say It Will Lead To Production Of Incompetent Graduates
The Students’ Union Government(SUG) of Rivers State College of Heath Science and Management Technology has rejected the planned online examination by the Management of the institution.
The President of SUG, Comrade Igwe ThankGod in a telephone interview with our reporter argued that as a medical school, the institution requires teaching of the students through practicals. Comrade Igwe decried a situation where lecturers just post pictures of notes online without impacting knowledge on the students.
He argued that for instance how is it possible for students to learn skills and techniques of delivery of baby through online WhatsApp class.
Comrade Igwe explained that the students are not against the institution but are worried about the effects the online examination which is supposed to be a practical based examination meant to impact practical knowledge will have on the society.
The SUG President called on the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Commissioner of Health and Education respectively not to allow examination process that will lead to production of incompetent and unqualified graduates.
The SUG President equally called on the public, Human rights community to prevail on the school Management not to deprive Students of the institution who are prospective primary health care providers of rights of acquiring basic health skills through practical knowledge.
The Provost of the institution, Professor Franklyn Nlerum was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile line on enquiry into the issues raised by the Students as at time of filing this report.
