Police Officers who allegedly aided a Police Inspector to abduct and rape a widow last week as well as the said officer risk being dismissed from the Force, National Network has learned.
A source within the Force hinted our reporter that the accusation levelled against the Police officers is a dismissal offence.
The source revealed to our reporter that going by the revelation made by the driver of the vehicle that the widow and mother of two was arrested for not wearing nose mask, contrary to the claim by the officers that she visited the Inspector accused of raping her suggests that the officers have questions to answer.
The source noted that assuming without conceding that the woman offered the officer sex in exchange for her release, it is an offence for a Police officer to receive sex in exchange for the release of a suspect.
Meanwhile a man who simply identified himself as Lucky who said he is the driver of the vehicle boarded by the 23 year old widow who was allegedly raped by one Inspector, has disclosed that the woman was actually arrested for not putting on nose mask by the Police Officers stationed around Saapenkwaa junction in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State last Tuesday, contrary to claim by the officers that she came to visit the Inspector.
The driver in an interview with our reporter explained that he loaded his vehicle at Bori in Khana local Government Area of the state and on getting to Saapenkwaa three officers stopped the vehicle.
The driver disclosed that he gave her his nose mask after they understood the officers were arresting people who did not have nose mask.
The driver stated that the Police said they had arrested her already and would not let her go even though the driver just gave her nose mask.
Mr lucky revealed that despite the plea by other passengers of the bus to let her go because it was late, the Police officers refused.
The driver said that the officers threatened to shoot the tyre of the vehicle if the driver did not leave.
The driver said at that point he had to leave the place and continued the journey without the widow.
The driver of the vehicle confirmed to our reporter that he had given his voluntary statement to the Police last Saturday.
It could be recalled that the four officers involved had claimed last Thursday, in a meeting in the office of the Police Public Officer, Superintendent of Police, (SP) Nnamdi Omoni that the widow was not arrested for not putting on nose mask but rather she alighted at the place to visit the said Inspector who had earlier agreed with her to stop by when she was coming back from Bori.
The said officer claimed from that point their journey began to where they had consensual sex.
The widow had earlier told our reporter that she was arrested for not putting on nose mask and instead of the Police to take her to the station she was diverted to a guest house where she was allegedly raped till day break by the Inspector.
It would be recalled that the spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Nnamdi Omoni last Thursday said the Police officers are those serving at MOPOL 56 at Saakpenwaa, not Saakpenwaa Police Station as insinuated.
SP Omoni disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Mukan had ordered that the case file be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation after which the outcome of the investigation will be made public.
The Police spokesperson appealed to members of the Public to remain calm as justice will not only be served in the matter but manifestly done in the matter.
