N18billion Loan: Diri Salutes Gov Wike, Calls Him Patriot Par-Excellence

The lawmaker representing Opobo/Nkoro Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Adonye Kelly Diri has applauded the move by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to take a loan of N18 billion from Access Bank to enable the execution of some projects and completion of ongoing ones.

Diri who spoke to journalists shortly after the House gave the nod to the governor’s request during plenary on Tuesday, said the procurement of the loan is a step in the right direction considering the quantum of projects waiting to be executed at the moment.

The lawmaker expressed hope that as a man of principle, who keeps faith with his words, he had no doubt that the governor would repay the loan as planned.

Governor Wike had in the letter sent to the Assembly, said the loan, which will be fully repaid before the end of his tenure in 2023 will be serviced by the internally generated revenue of the state.

The governor also explained that the loan will accelerate development in the State, take care of the construction of the fourth flyover at GRA junction, dualization of the Mummy B to Stadium road, dualization of Tombia to Ikwerre road and payment of ancillary facilities and properties to be destroyed in course of the projects.

Adonye Diri, who is the Health Committee Chairman of the House, said the governor’s action is another wise decision taken to express his deep-seated eagerness to make Port Harcourt, the state capital a haven not only for people of the South-South region but Nigerians as a whole.

While showering accolades on the governor, the Assemblyman described him as patriot par-excellence, adding that his policies and programmes are driven by what he called uncommon patriotism and selflessness.

He advised he described as habitual fault seekers to jettison their prejudices and view the governor’s action in its merit which, he stressed, is total development for the good of all.

The lawmaker said what the governor needed at this period of the nation’s democracy is prayers from all of Rivers people, adding that Governor Wike would also be spurred to do more with the needed support and cooperation.
