RSHA Moves To Resolve Crisis Arising From Unpaid Salaries In Ahoda-West

As part of its oversight functions, the Rivers State House of Assembly has waded into the ongoing crisis between the Chairman of Ahoada -West Local Government Council, Hon. Hope Ikiriko and the Local Government Employees in the area.

In a meeting with both parties, the House called on the authority of Ahaoda-West and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to sheathe their swords especially as it has commenced resolution of the matter arising from unpaid salaries of Ahoada-West Council workers.

The Chairman House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, Hon. Evans Bipi gave the charge shortly after meeting with both parties over the matter.

He advised NULGE to suspend its planned  strike action and also called on the chairman of Ahoada-West, Hon. Ikiriko to withdraw the court injunction filed pending when the matter will be resolved.

Commending the intervention of the Assembly, the President of NULGE, Clifford Paul  expressed hope that Rivers State House of Assembly would give them justice and asked all  Union chapters across the state to suspend the planned strike.

He also advised workers across the 23 Local Government Areas to return to their duty posts pending when the matter is resolved by the committee.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Ahoada-West Local Government Area, Hon. Ikiriko has promised to stand down the court injunction following the intervention by the Assembly.

He promised to heed the advice of the committee saying that he had confidence that the committee would handle the matter.

However, the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions adjourned the matter till Wednesday 30th September 2020.
