PHALGA Mayor Lists Achievements, Says He’s Shown Proof Of Determination To Do More
The Mayor of Port-Harcourt City Local Government, Hon Sir Allwell Ihunda, (JP), has listed achievements made within 100 days saying the achievements have shown proof of his determination to do more.
He spoke when addressing journalists in a press conference marking 100 days of his administration at the council secretariat on Wednesday.
The mayor said: “One hundred days down the road our people can look back and attest to the fact that our administration is off to a great start in the mission to reposition Port-Harcourt City. As a committed servant leader I am just getting started. As a responsive government we have matched our words with action and showed proof of our determination to do more by using the 100 days window to provide a clear road map for actualizing our dream “Port-Harcourt City”.
He listed achievements made within the period to include construction of six classroom blocks and 200-sitting capacity assembly hall at Community Secondary School, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo and construction of lodge for corps members and remodelling of new Procurement Building at the council secretariat.
He also named installation of solar lights at Chief Ogbonda and Chief Ogbuga Streets in Orogbum Community, Ward Two and installation of streetlights at Kpadeli Street in Orochiri Community, Ward Eight and installation of streetlights at Nanka Street, Rumuworji, Ward 13 as other achievements.
He said he also furnished 48 offices in the new office building complex at the secretariat and constructed eight public toilets at Captain Amangala Street, Ward Seven at Old Port-Harcourt Township.
The mayor also said that he constructed water project on Ojoto Street, Mgbundukwu Community in Ward 14 and on Apostolic Street in Oro-abasiolu, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Ward 18.
He said the first batch of 200 beneficiaries of trades, skills and entrepreneurship programme for youth and women empowerment just graduated and that he had organized a joint orientation workshop for executive and legislative arms of the government and had appointed over 250 political appointees.
He said that he would also flag-off reconstruction of Port-Harcourt Global Computer Market also known as Skills Acquisition Programme Building at Nkpolu-Oroworukwo Community and Digital Tools Mall at Urualla Street, Rumuworji Community, Diobu.
He said the successes made wouldn’t have been possible without co-operation of other arms of government saying that he wouldn’t abandon responsibilities to the people.
During an interactive session when he took questions from journalists Hon Sir Ihunda said that his administration would provide starter packs for graduands of the skills acquisition programme and provide them soft loans in partnership with Bank of Industry.
He said that consultations were made with the people before the projects were executed.
He also said there were plans to work out modalities at organizing sports competition at all schools and wards.
As a security measure he said he had discussed with security agents to ensure security in the council and promised to improve on revenue generation by next year.
He said that there was environmental sanitation committee to ensure cleanliness in the local council to complement efforts by Rivers State Waste Management Agency.
He also urged residents to avoid throwing refuse into drains to stop flooding.
The new procurement building was commissioned after the event by Hon Sir Sam Soni Ejekwu.
