The Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation in Rivers State has taken custody of two underage girls aged twelve and thirteen years who escaped from the home of their guardian alongside a ten year old boy over issues bordering on sexual violence, National Network can report.
The underage girls were handed over to the Ministry by a Non Governmental Organization the Centre For Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign last Monday.
Two female children aged 12,13 years old were rescued at Mile 3 Diobu last week Thursday by Godstime Ihunwo Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu, Oroworukwo, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt at about 10pm.
Mr. Ihunwo told our correspondent that while on patrol with his men he saw the three children with their luggage and upon interrogation, they said they ran out of their home due to alleged ill-treatment and ‘sex’ slavery experience they were going through.
Mr Ihunwo disclosed that he informed a human rights group.
He stated that the boy aged ten year and the girls aged twelve and thirteen years old informed him that their former guardian, Blessing Ibilaba told them before her death in 2019 that they were adopted from an orphanage home and their present guardian who is the woman’s brother took custody of them after her death.
Meanwhile the underage girls in an interview with correspondent alleged that the son of the present guardian who is twenty six years of age defiled them and has continuous raped them which prompted their decision to ran away from the home.
The twelve year old girl told our correspondent that the son of the present guardian has rape her over five times.
In the meantime, the Rumulomeni Police Division, Iwofe interrogated the present guardian of the underage girls on the allegation made by the teenage girls against the man’s son who is a serving youth corp member outside Rivers State.
Our correspondent reports that the guardian of the children was released on bail and urged to produce his son in no distant time.
Meanwhile as at press time the underage girls has been taken to a health facility for a comprehensive medical examination.
