Rice Farmers Can’t Support Buhari – Secondus
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, has expressed doubts over reports that rice farmers have endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term.
Recall that the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria and Fertilisers Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria had announced a donation of N1.77bn to the campaign of President Buhari.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Abia State, however, Secondus said farmers had vacated their lands because of the clashes with herdsmen which the Buhari government has yet to effectively tackle.
“Farmers are no longer going to farm. Are they? So, which farmer will support President Buhari?” he asked.
He said the murder of the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.), had shown the level of insecurity that Nigeria had descended into under Buhari
Secondus said when the PDP handed over power to the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria had the best performing economy in Africa.
He, however, stated that in less than three years of the APC, Nigeria was named the poverty capital of the world.
The PDP chairman added, “In 2015, Nigeria was recorded as the best and number one economy in Africa. Am I right? Today, we are the poverty capital of the world. Am I right?”
