Endorsement Of Atiku/Obi By Ohanaeze Ndigbo Is Binding – Sen. Obi

Senator Ben Obi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s recent decision to endorse Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi is binding on all persons from South-East geopolitical zone.

The Pan-Igbo group had endorsed the PDP’s presidential candidate and his running mate at the end of a meeting in Akwa, Anambra State, recently.

Senator Obi, who represented Anambra Central in the National Assembly, was obviously responding to the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, who alleged that the endorsement of PDP’s presidential candidate and his running mate was done by members of the PDP who are also members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Ngige had said that the decision to endorse Alhaji Abubakar and Mr. Obi was hurriedly taken without due consultation with the leadership of the pan-Igbo group.

Senator Obi, however, said that the decision to endorse Alhaji Abubakar and Mr. Obi was collective and was binding on all Igbo sons and daughters from the South-East geopolitical zone of the country.

He stated this at a town hall meeting in Port-Harcourt on Sunday where Igbo non-indigenes in Rivers State hosted the PDP’s vice presidential candidate.

Senator Obi who was chairman of the occasion, said that the organizers of the town hall meeting did well for putting together the event.

He thanked the governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party. Governor Wike was represented by a former governor of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia.

The PDP’s vice presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who addressed his Igbo kindred, at the town hall meeting, said that the federal government under the All Progressives Congress had failed to solve the problems facing the country.

He said that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would solve the problems facing the country, if elected, and appealed to Nigerians to take part in the forthcoming electoral process and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party.
