Suspension of Electoral Process In Rivers, Timely – David Briggs

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Chief David Briggs says but for the timely suspension of the electoral process in the State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), some irate Soldiers and Political thugs would have occasioned harm on the INEC office in Port Harcourt.

Chief Briggs described the conduct of the army during the Saturday March 9 Governorship and State Assembly elections in Akuku-Toru LGA as most shameful.

According to him, the once respected Nigerian military by the dismal display of partisanship during the elections, have lowered their prestige and sold themselves to politicians.

Chief David Briggs alleged that the army in full public glare collaborated with the APC and AAC thugs to raid polling units and carted away ballot papers which they later thumb-printed, allocating outrageous results to the non-existent AAC.

Attacked and stabbed by the APC thugs, Chief Briggs further alleged were Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara of ward 6 Unit 11, and Orolobo Georgewill of Ward 6 Unit 4 who were also the PDP agents in various units.

The PDP Chieftain said it was against this backdrop and the impending danger across the state as a result of the APC-led mayhem that the suspension of the electoral process by the INEC became imperative.

“We only hope the suspension will afford the INEC the opportunity to checkmate the lapses especially the invasion of its constitutional duties by the army and other unauthorized persons so as to win back their credibility and integrity in the face of nationwide condemnation of the 2019 general elections.

“Election is all about people and service to the people. It’s not about violence or war. The inordinate ambition of wresting power by all means in the State is the cause of all this mess”, David Briggs noted.
