Okrika Amanyanaboship Stool: ODCC Preaches Unity, Hails Court  Judgment

The Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC) says it welcomed the court judgment which upheld the position of HRM, Dr. Alfred S. Abam, Ado IX as the Amanyanabo of Okrika.

Briefing journalists in Okrika on Sunday, the Chairman of the group, Chief Sunday K.A.T. Kalaowolo said the Executive Committee of ODCC was pleased with the judgment, a development it said has put to rest the tussle for the Amanyanabo of Okrika, calling on all Okrikans to lay down their differences and forge a new unity for the peace and development of the Kingdom.

He said the time was ripe for all and sundry to join forces to move Okrika forward and build a virile and an egalitarian Okrika.

The Executive Committee of ODCC later paid a courtesy visit on the Okrika monarch to congratulate him on the landmark judgment on the Okrika stool which dates back to 1605.

Chief Kalaowolo assured the monarch of the support and cooperation of the chiefs and people of Okrika.

In his response, the king said the struggle for kingship is a global phenomenon and not peculiar to Okrika kingdom, noting that the judgment has vindicated the age-long tradition in Okrika.

He made it clear that Okrika is made up of several towns, and by tradition each town has its own king who is subordinate to the stool of Amayanabo of Okrika.

HRM, Dr. Abam thanked the ODCC for their loyalty, support and promise to do all he could to ensure that peace reigns in the kingdom.
