Buhari Officially Proclaims 8th NASS Over, Announces Inauguration Of 9th

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, June 6, sent a proclamation letter that officially terminated the term of the eighth National Assembly.

After receiving the proclamation letter, the clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, confirmed the development to newsmen on Thursday.

According to the letter, the termination of the term of the eighth Assembly will take effect by midnight of Saturday, June 8, and the ninth Senate will begin on Tuesday, June 11, Premium Times reports.

“I just want to confirm that I have received a proclamation from the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria. One on the dissolution of the eighth National Assembly, the other one on the convening of the first session of the ninth National Assembly.

“The proclamation of the dissolution of the eighth National Assembly takes effect from 12 midnight of 8th June.

“By implication, from eighth of June by 12 midnight, the eighth National Assembly stands dissolved. Similarly, the ninth National Assembly will be inaugurated and first sitting will be held on Tuesday 11th of June by 10 a.m. in the National Assembly complex,” Sani-Omolori said.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari had reportedly issued a proclamation for the 9th National Assembly to be inaugurated on June 11, 2019, according to a letter which is raising eyebrows.

The purported letter from Buhari, he proclaimed that the 9th Senate and House of Representatives should hold their first sessions on June 11.
