Rumuodomaya Community Writes Gov Wike On ‘Okoro-Nu-Odo’ Bridge/Flyover
…Pleads For Correct Name
Ahead of the planned construction of the Okoro-Nu-Odo overhead bridge in Obio/Akpor local government area by the Rivers State government, the Rumuodomaya Community has requested that the wrong designation of the project labelled ‘Rumuokoro Bridge/Flyover’ be corrected to ‘Okoro-Nu-Odo Bridge/Flyover’.
In a letter of appreciation to Governor Wike, dated June 19, 2019, the elders, chiefs, leaders of thoughts and other sundry custodians of the tradition of the community, thanked the State government for its developmental strides across the State and for its particular interest and love for her community.
While appreciating His Excellency’s magnanimity to decongest the ever busy and crowded Rumuokoro Roundabout as erroneously called and because of the increased socio-economic development it will engender for the people when fully constructed, the Rumuodomaya community pleaded with the State government to simply do the needful by properly designating and naming the overhead bridge as ‘Okoro-Nu-Odo’ overhead bridge which reflects the names of the two communities, Rumuokoro and Rumuodomaya that commonly own the land and which is incontrovertible.
To drive home their point, the community drew the attention of the governor to the true identification and the historical facts surrounding the area now, albeit wrongly addressed as ‘Rumuokoro Roundabout’.
According to them, Rumuodomaya and Rumuokoro communities, though different autonomous entities have had a very brotherly cordial relationship, and have lived, related and executed common socio-cultural/economic activities, tasks and projects together as if they were one community under the umbrella of the ‘Okoro-Nu-Odo’.
They cited projects commonly owned by the two communities which designation reflect the names of the two communities to include: Okoro-Nu-Odo Wrestling Festival, Emmanuel Anglican Church, Okoro-Nu-Odo Deanery, Community Primary School Okoro-Nu-Odo as well as the former Okoro-Nu-Odo market jointly owned by the two communities on the Bori Camp axis of the East-West Road as classical examples of the established existence of the common name ‘Okoro-Nu-Odo’.
It’s on the strength of this uncontrovertible fact and for the continued mutual and cordial relationship between the two communities that the Rumuodomaya Community has requested that the erroneously called Rumuokoro Bridge/Flyover be properly designated ‘Okoro-Nu-Odo Bridge/Flyover’ by His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike.
Meanwhile, the Rumuodomaya Community has felicitated with their State and National Assembly representatives namely: Senator Thompson George Sekibo, representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Hon Kingsley Chinda, Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency and Hon. Martins Amaewhule, representing Obio/Akpor Constituency I in the State House of Assembly over their electoral victories and subsequent inauguration.
