Mgbuesilaru Community Assures SPDC Of Harmonious Relationship

…Warns Troublemakers

Mgbuesilaru Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has assured Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of harmonious relationship and peaceful co-existence with the oil multi-national company.

The leaders, chiefs and elders of the community while briefing newsmen in Port-Harcourt also warned trouble makers to desist from causing crisis in the community.

While briefing newsmen at the press forum on behalf of Mgbuesilaru Community, comprising Rumukwurukwuru and Rumucheta, Promise W. Iwezor, chairman, Mgbuesilaru Town Council said the community has brokered peace through out of court settlement, secured by Eze Morgan Amadi.

According to him, Mgbuesilaru had been in a long drawn court battle with SPDC over land lease agreement, adding that the company as appellant had through HRH, Eze Morgan Amadi applied to the Supreme Court to grant the parties leave to settle out of court, which the Supreme Court reportedly granted on December 10, 2018.

The parties, he went on, had entered into dialogue and concluded negotiations on 2nd April, 2019.

When they were about to sign the terms of the out-of-court settlement on  April 4, 2019, the Town Council Chairman said, some boys allegedly mobilized and disrupted the arrangement. 

He disclosed that the boys who disrupted the arrangement and allegedly made damaging announcements against Mgbuesilaru have been arraigned in court.

“However, after the disruption and the incident of April 4, 2019, the Mgbuesilaru Community convened several other meetings and finally agreed on June 12, 2019 to write SPDC of our desire to sign the said terms of-out-of-court settlement and equally applied to the Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA to provide a venue at the council secretariat and personally supervise the process which he graciously granted”, the Mgbuesilaru Town Council Chairman stated.

The youths of Mgbuesilaru in their own press statement signed by Comrades Kingsley Nwanwa and Henry Wody James, President and Vice President respectively and two others affirmed what the Town Council Chairman said.

In their separate speeches, both  Eze Morgan Amadi, Paramount Ruler, Okporo Okwumsi and Eze Ken Iwezor, Paramount Ruler, Mgbuesilaru community warned against disturbing the prevailing peace in the area, adding that no one individual can be bigger than the entire community, the local government and the state and called on the police and the state government to take cognizance of those formenting trouble in the community.
