CSO Leader Condemns Demonstration By Groups Over Insecurity
Based on its established touch with the state government through collaboration, to stem the tide of insecurity and killings in the state, the Civil Society Organizations, CSOs have called on other groups who embarked on demonstration recently to cease from such actions as it would amount to a blackmail of the state government.
Reacting to the development, chairman of CSOs in the state, Comrade Sotonye George, in a chat with journalists, condemned protest march by groups who described themselves CSOs. He informed that, already his organization had forged collaboration which is expected to bring about normalcy to the state.
He stated that the government had put machinery in place to address the security situation, as there would be no need for any protest which would suggest that nothing was being done.
According to him, his group’s stance on community policing or the Neighbourhood Security Watch was in tandem with the state government’s plans. He described activities by other groups calling themselves CSOs as blackmail as the state government was out to address the situation.
He expressed the confidence that the security plan by the state government would work in the state if same had recorded successes in other states where they have the neighbourhood watch.
An angry chairman of the CSOs in the state argued that some protests being carried out by groups not known to his fold were politically motivated. He opined that such activities had the potential to drive away the would-be investors from the state. He stated that any group with cogent reason to embark on protest should seek and explore the right channel to do so, instead of hiding under any guise to vent their sentiments.
He advised groups to resort to partnership with relevant security agencies, especially the police in order for peace to reign, even as he cautioned the youth to pursue productive activities.
