…As Kurukuru Group Of Houses Lifts Trophy
The week-long Amanyanabo of Ogu Peace Football Cup competition has ended with the sponsor and monarch of Ogu Kingdom, His Majesty, King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo, Loko IX stating that he was motivated by the spirit of Ogu to bankroll the tournament.
Speaking at the close of the keenly contested competition, the monarch expressed delight with the skills and performance of the teams and promised to host it annually in order to engage the youths meaningfully to showcase their talents and play for state, national and international club sides as well as to maintain the peace in the kingdom.
He said he was motivated to sponsor the tournament and engage the youths after he took a walk round the community, stressing that he is going to do lot more like wrestling, canoe race, casting of net and swimming among others, asserting that the players performed creditably well as there were no victors nor vanquished.
According to the first class Ogu monarch, football had become economically viable and socially balances the mentality and thanked all for making the event a huge success.
Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion and Chairman, Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, Amb. Spiff Micah Taribo Amgbara hailed the Amanyanabo of Ogu for the initiative as it would be a stepping stone to make the youths to be useful and that with the move, people are ready and willing to encourage them.
In the thrilling and keenly contested final match, Nicholas Tamuno of Kurukuru Group scored the winning goal in the second half against the Loko Group of Houses and Offiomani Group ended 4-2 in favour of Ama Group through penalty after a goalless draw at full time.
The occasion also featured the presentation of awards to the best player, Ose Crownwell of Loko Group of Houses; highest goal scorer, Solomon Deferechi of Offiomani; best goalkeeper, Saturday Alex and best defender, Patterson Wilberforce.
