I Completed My NYSC, Says Reps Member Dismissed Over Non-Participation

Abdulrauf Modibbo whose election as member of the House of Representatives for Yola South/Yola North/ Girei Federal Constituency over non participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, has said such a ruling is curious as he had completed his participation in the scheme by the time electoral campaigns began in 2018.

He also contends that issue of his NYSC participation should not arise as he did not enter into the election as a university graduate.

Modibbo who addressed a press conference in Yola over the issues surrounding his election which became the subject of a protracted legal procedure that ended at the Supreme Court last Tuesday, lamented that the apex court “did not explore every channel at its disposal” to investigate the allegations leveled against him.

“This is not the outcome we worked so hard for,” he asserted, adding that he presented his secondary school certificate for the election which produced him as a House of Representatives member, knowing that such qualification meets the requirement of anyone aspiring for that position.

Abdulrauf also said the issue about two primary school certificates and conflicting age specifications is untenable.

“My primary school head teacher invited by the court, tendered all necessary information that would have proven my innocence,” he said.

He concluded, however, that he had accepted the apex court ruling in good faith and is grateful to have led his people in the short time since the inauguration of the National Assembly in June.

“I have congratulated Hon Jafar Ribadu and offered to work with him,” he said, referring to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last election who came next to him in number of votes won and who has been declared winner of the election by the Supreme Court.
