Pirate Activities On Bonny Waterways Require Additional Gunboats – LG Boss

Stakeholders have expressed worry over incessant attacks by sea pirates on Bonny waterways and have resolved to put an end to the incident to bring about normalcy, while appealing to people to remain calm for government to come to their aid.

Expressing concern, Chairman Bonny  Local Government David Didimaga, observed, in a chat with journalists that insufficient gunboats to patrol the waterways have been responsible for the ceaseless attack. According to him, the Rivers State government had already made provision for three gun boat which he said were not enough to cover the areas prone to activities of the sea pirates.

“We need about  a minimum of at least five gun boats to man strategic areas to checkmate the inflow of sea pirates,” he said. He lamented that available gunboats would not go round from one areas of concentration to the other” he said.

He appealed to the Rivers State government to make additional provision in order to shore up security and improve safety on Bonny waterways.

Earlier, one of the past victims of pirate activities on the waterways, Rutu Jumbo lamented the condition travelers were same times subjected to. She recalled that no resuce came her way and other victims who lost valuables to see pirates when they came face to face with the sea pirates

Meanwhile, stakeholders have expressed resolve to put an end to sea pirate activites in the area and have assured Bonny People to stay calm as efforts were being deployed to fight the menace.

There had been reported cases of pirate activities around Bonny waterways and ins environs, leading to incidents of stolen speed boats and loss of valuables by travelers in the area.
