The Elimgbu Community in ward one of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has expressed joy and sang the praises of the State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and his Special Adviser on Employment Generation, Hon Barr. Emmanuel Utchay, for coming to their aid with the palliatives to cushion the effect of the sit-at-home order as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking with newsmen in the area during the distribution of the palliatives, the S.A disclosed that the government’s commodities were supported with his own contributions including tubers of yam, cartons of indomie noodles and bags of rice to ensure that the relieve materials go round everybody in the community, indigenes and non-indigenes alike.
“You would be surprised that even members of the opposition political parties were part of the committee members who shared the materials. It was indeed a memorable occasion for us here as we wine and dine together in units”.
Hon. Utchay said the pandemic is real and affects the whole world, adding that in Rivers State the people and residents are lucky to have a leader like Governor Wike whose proactive measures which went a long way in halting the spread of the pandemic.
He urged the governor not to be distracted by what critics are saying, assuring him that Rivers people are with him and support all his actions which is in their interest.
The CDC chairman of Elimgbu Community, Chief Godfrey Nnanna Wobo used the opportunity to thank the governor for the palliative materials and appealed to the committee to share them equitably to all segment of the society as hunger, he noted, knows no boundary.
“They should not politicize the good gesture of the governor”, he said.
He equally commended the gesture of their leader, Hon. Utchay for his effort in supporting the administration especially the procurement and distribution of relief materials including cartons of sanitizers to his people.
“We have ten(10) centres created for the smooth sharing of the materials, that is why there was no complaint during the exercise,” he said.
The CDC chairman also thanked the governor for initiating another palliative of buying up foodstuffs which he noted is not only to empower Rivers people but additionally get relief materials to every household to cushion the effect of the sit-at-home directives as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
