…As Degema Lawmaker Promises To Address Menace
Insecurity of the waterways due to sea pirates activities has become a big concern especially as it has consistently led to several loss of lives and properties.
Against this backdrop, the lawmaker representing Degema constituency in the Rivers state House of Assembly, Hon. Anthony Soberekon, has assured his contituents that the menace will soon be a thing of the past in the state.
He said this when he visited Bakana Jetty in Port-Harcourt to sympathize with the community people and the boat owners over the recent sea pirates’ attacks on the Bakana waterways.
Anthony Soberekon said the issues of life vest and sea pirates attacks which is not peculiar to Bakana waters alone will be addressed to enhance peace and development in the state.
Responding, the Chairman of Bakana Boat Owners Association, Deein Davies, regretted that their lives and those of their passengers were not safe on the waterways.
Meanwhile, the community chairman of Abonnema Wharf, Taribo Benson appealed that the issue which has become a source of worry to their people should be addressed without any delay.
