Suspected Cultist Shot, Burnt At Alakahia

The shooting to death of a yet-to-be identified youth at Alakahia, along NYSC Road Rivers State, early in the morning on Monday has caused panic among residents of the community who suspected a cult related killing in the area.

The development which spread like wild fire attracted crowds to the scene. A visit by National Network to the location, showed that the incident led many to abandon their business activities as shops were under lock and key, for fear of repraisal attack by the opposition group. 

Responding to questions around the scene, a youth who gave his name as Michael Ogolo, said that the deceased who was a popular youth in the area was shot and burnt all over early in the morning. He stated that many people within the location woke up to the tragedy, leaving no one in doubt that the killing was cult related. “They burnt his body with tyre. The young man was black in colour. I don’t know his name. But anytime you see him, you will see boys behind him.”

Another eyewitness, Joyce Wordu, a student of UNIPORT, said a related development took place around the area not long ago and called on the police to investigate the issue and intensify patrol around Alakahia and its environs.

As at the time of filling this report eyewitnesses who confirmed the incident said that  the body of the deceased had been moved and that the Choba Divisional Police Station was aware of the incident.   

Meawhile, Alakahioa community has continued to witness cult clashes in recent time leading to loss of lives and maiming apart from general armed robbery cases. Residents of the area have appealed to the Rivers State government to step up security in order to ensure law and order.
