…Says Uchendu Has No Electoral Value
Immediate past Senator who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, has said that former Governor and current Transportation Minister, Chibuke Amaechi, is biggest investment of All Progressives Congress in Rivers State as party battles to come out of its crisis.
Senator Abe, who was guest in live television programme, said: “We supported Amaechi. We have helped one another and we are all friends. Amaechi is our biggest investment in the politics in Nigeria”.
He said he had been careful in choice of words when talking about the former governor.
“I have been circumspect about my choice of words when talking about Rotimi Amaechi and have said it over and over again that he is the leader of the
party. But a leader must lead in such a manner that your supporters and followers can have confidence in the leadership. Leadership should not be designed to hurt anybody or group”, he said.
He said no member of the party was dispensable or indispensable and called for efforts to bring everyone together in the All Progressives Congress.
He said he was ready to do everything to bring the party together but said foundation for peace should not be for him to announce he has no ambition for governorship.
Abe said: “I am ready to do whatever we need to do to bring the party together, but if the foundation of the peace is that Senator Abe should announce that he has no ambition, I will not make that announcement”, adding that
people supported him for governorship because they saw he could become governor of the state.
Abe said the problem of the party was disobedience to court order saying that it brought disagreement between the party and the judiciary.
He said a situation where
stakeholders of the party throw tantrums was unacceptable saying such behaviour would not bring the party out of the crisis.
“We need peace in the party and if we can change our language and stop talking the way we do (and) do things differently, we can have
different results”, he added.
He said the senator who represented Rivers East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Andrew Uchendu, had “no ambition to sacrifice” and was unlikely to win any future election.
He said members of the party should refrain from comments they need not make in public saying “decency demands that … certain things … should not” be said “about one another in the public”.
