IAUE Students Denied Lectures  Over Indecent Dressing

The authorities of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) have gone tough on students in its determination to ensure they adhere strictly to dress code in campus.

Consequently, a mild drama ensued at the entrance gate of the university on Wednesday, as security personnel at the gate who were turning back students who dressed indecently, turned back a male student for having an unkempt hair.

Our correspondent who witnessed the incident reports that the student though was properly dressed but was asked to go outside the gate to comb his hair before he could gain entrance into the campus.

The student was later allowed entry into the school after he combed his hair, according to our source.

Female students who were putting on short skirts, gowns and clothes exposing their boobs and well as male students who wore trousers exposing their pants were also turned back.

Security personnel at the gate who spoke to National Network on condition of anonymity disclosed that it is part of measures adopted by the institution to install discipline in students. He stated that the school has zero tolerance for indecent dressing which has been identified as one of the source of distraction to students.

Checks by National Network show that IAUE is not the only higher institution in the state adopting such measures. Last week, our reporter observed security personnel at the back and main gate of Rivers State University (RSU) turning back both male and female students who dressed indecently.

The security personnel informed our reporter that the institution embarked on sensitization such as posting of banners at strategic position on campus stating clearly the kind of dress code that amounts to indecent dressing before enforcement of the policy.

The security personnel said is annoying that despite the sensitization by the school management, some students still go ahead to dress indecently to school and the only way to stop the menace is to enforce the law to the letter without fear or compromise.

Some people   are of the opinion that since it is assumed that students of higher institutions are adults, they should be allowed to dress the way they want while other school of thought is of the opinion that the school should discipline students who dress indecently since students are issued certified in character and in learning.
