A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, His Highness Anabs Sara-Igbe, has said that the party is facing trying times at the moment but said the party could still find a way out and build united party.
The party chieftain stated this in an interview on Tuesday in Port-Harcourt while responding to question on whether national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, was facing a crisis and if that affected the party.
Sara-Igbe said: “Everybody knows that APC is facing tying times. As a party, there are different opinions, different views, different thinking, and all are coming to display, so this is a trying period for the party. The Chairman (of the party) has his problem with his state (branch of the party) which is contributing to the national and has affected him but I think we can still build a united party”.
He said that the party is also facing crisis in Rivers, Edo, Zamfara and Ondo states, saying “when there are disagreements among leadership, it leads to crisis and that’s the crisis we are being faced with”.
Asked if there was gang-up against the party chairman by members, His Highness Sara-Igbe said that politics is a “game of intrigues” saying he would not rule out possibility that there could be plans or counter-plans.
Also asked if this was good omen for the party ahead of 2023 General Elections, the party chieftain said every party has its own challenges, saying where misunderstanding arises it helps the party in question to “consolidate and stay longer”.
He advised the national chairman of the party to see leadership as “transient”, saying he should humble himself so that the people would accept him as their leader.
The party chieftain who stressed leadership is not by force also advised the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, not to fight party members but to make peace saying “I will enjoin him to see how he can make peace with all and sundry”.
On the crisis in the party in Rivers State, the party chieftain said that he believes the party will work out modalities on how to reconcile.
Adams Oshiomhole was suspended as Chairman of All Progressives Congress by an Abuja High Court following a suit instituted by some party members who said he could not be party chairman when he was suspended by the party in his home state of Edo.
The APC national chairman was however reinstated when an Appeal Court in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ruled that there should be stay of execution on the judgement by the Abuja High Court pending the determination of appeal filed by the party’s national chairman.
