The former Chairman of Inter Party Advisory-Council in Rivers State, Sir Precious Barido, has stated that the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, runs an all inclusive government with willing members of the opposition parties involved.
Speaking with newsmen in his office in Port Harcourt, Sir Barido who is a Board member in the Universal Basic Education Board and Commissioner in charge of Services said it was not true that the Wike administration is not working with the opposition parties.
According to him, “Wike as a listening governor waited for over six (6) months consulting and talking with members of the opposition parties who are ready and willing to work with him to come on board. During the inauguration ceremony for the governor’s second tenure in office, most of us were involved in various committees too,” he said.
He maintained that after the elections, political parties are supposed to collapsed and prepare for governance in the interest of all, adding it is foolhardy for politicians to continue distracting the administration or causing unnecessary confusion in the system through unwarranted criticism.
The “Accord” party chairman in the state advised that there are many ways for one to pass his/her views/suggestions to the government for consideration including the media, writing the governor personal letters, sponsoring of a bill to the state House of Assembly through one’s representative or through a town hall meeting.
The SUBEB Commissioner advised further that these suggestions should be made consciously with respect, human face and maturity, devoid of hatred, intimidation or antagonism.
Sir Barido used the opportunity to commend Governor Wike for his administration’s policy to embark on four flyovers and opening of others roads simultaneously to decongest traffic on Port Harcourt roads.
In answer to another question, Sir Barido assured that with available resources, there is nothing wrong for the government to scatter many flyovers every junctions in the state that normally delays commuters and contributes to loss of man hour including those linking up the riverine communities for easy movement.
He also commended the government for the free and compulsory education policy introduced in the state by the Wike administration which he noted has increased tremendously the enrolment figures of children into schools.
He added that the policy has also helped many families to train their children in school which they are very grateful. The Board member urged parents to be prepared to support the government and teachers especially in providing PPEs and observing safety protocols in and outside the school hours.
