Fear Grips Ogbunabali Residents As Gunshots Rent Air
Reports reaching our news desk suggest that heavily armed men suspected to be cultists shot sporadically last week Sunday when they invaded Ogbunabali community in Port Harcourt Local Government Area in search of rival cultists.
A resident of the community told our reporter that the gunmen who did not find their target shot sporadically in the community for atleast ten minutes before they left.
Our source disclosed that the invasion by the gunmen may not be unconnected to supremacy battle between suspected Greenlanders and Icelanders cult groups in parts of the city.
The source hinted that no life was lost but some persons sustained injury while scampering for safety.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, Nnamdi Omoni a Superintendent of Police (SP) told was reporter on enquiry into the incident via text message he will get back to him but he was yet to do so at press time.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State Police command arrested two suspects in connection with the shoot out between suspected Greenlanders and Icelanders cult groups at Amadi Ama in Port Harcourt Local Government Area last month.
The spokesperson of the command, (SP) Omoni had told Journalists that surveillance unit of Amadi Ama Police station while acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspected cultists recently in the area.
SP Omoni had disclosed that one of the suspects Prince Effiong, male admitted to be member of Iceland cult group while the second suspect is yet to open up.
SP Omoni stated that a barreta pistol and 6 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the suspects.
The suspect, Mr. Effiong in an interview with Journalists admitted being a member of Iceland cult group but denied being the owner of the gun.
The suspect also denied participating in the shootout that rocked Amadi Ama recently. The suspect revealed that he boarded tricycle going to Mother Cat and was joined by another passenger who on sighting the Police threw something on the ground and ran away.
The suspect stated that the Police picked the object up and it was a gun and himself and the tricycle driver was arrested. Mr. Effiong also stated that the ‘Keke’ driver is not a member of his cult group. He admitted that he knows the man who threw the Pistol on the ground and ran away.
