As countdown to the February 11, 2021 Councillorship Primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the April 17, 2021 Local Government Election in Rivers State begins, youths of Egbeda Community in Emohua Local Government Area have appealed to stakeholders in the community, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to hand the party’s Councillorship ticket for Ward 11 (Egbeda) to an aspirant withproven integrity and requisite competence to lead the people.
Addressing journalists after a stakeholders meeting in Egbeda on Sunday, President of Egbeda Central Youths, Comrade Friday Ovumgba said the need for quality representation of Egbeda community has become necessary to bridge the gap and take the community to the next level.
The youth leader disclosed that after an exhaustive deliberation and attendant survey carried out by the youths, the name of Mrs. Beauty Ogbuji stood out above others.
Stating that even though the PDP was yet to formally unveil their candidates for the all-important, third-tier government election, the youths of Egbeda were very optimistic that their-choice candidate, Ogbuji, would get the nod of the party including those of all relevant stake holders in the community.
His words, “We are expectant that the adoption of Beauty Ogbuji as Councillorship candidate of PDP will be victory for the youths of Egbeda, because she is our choice.
We thank the PDP and all other stakeholders who will make this possible.
“Women have the highest voting strength in Egbeda, and from history, no woman has held sensitive position like Councilor in Egbeda. Beauty Ogbuji would be making history if she gets the ticket. To God be the glory”.
Asked whether their preferred candidate, being a woman, had the capacity to manage the recurring youths’ restiveness in Egbeda community, Ovumgba who also doubles as Deputy Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Emulga chapter, described Ogbuji as ‘tested and tried’.
“We have tested her capacity before now. Our expectation is that, if given the chance, she will assist to maintain the existing peace in the community.
We also believe that through her, the interest of Egbeda people would be protected at the EMOLGA Legislative Assembly.
“With her God-given wisdom and intellectual capacity, added with the community leadership that would always be around to guide her, there is no doubt she would prove to be the round peg on the round hole”, Ovumgba enthused.
The Egbeda youth leader while assuring that the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the community would be sustained ahead of the elections, showered encomiums on some community leaders whom, he said, made that possible.
They include Egbeda PDP leader in Ward 11, Hon. David Omereji; Councilor representing Ward 11, Hon. Didi Assor and PDP Ward 11 Chairman, Comrade Blessing Ube.
