Upsets Trail PDP Chairmanship Primaries
…As 15 Council Chairmen Lose Bid For Second Tenure
It was the late highlife sensation, Oliver De Coque who sang in one of his hit albums, Osondi Owendi, that while a situation is favourable for some, it is in most cases, unfavorable for many others. This state of affairs aptly played out across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State on Sunday, February 14, 2021 when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted its Local Government Chairmanship Primaries.
Dubbed as one of the freest and fair party primaries conducted in recent times, the primaries however recorded upsets as many of the serving Council Chairmen who were tipped for a return, lost out.
The eventual outcome of the polls also vindicated rumour mongers who had correctly predicted some of the results.
Some of the aspirants who upstaged the incumbent Council Chairmen to pick the PDP Chairmanship ticket for the LGAs were Erastus Awortu (Andoni); Onengiye George (Asari Toru); Michael John Williams (Degema); Chidi Lloyd (Emohua); Ollormate Obarilor (Eleme) and Confidence Deko (Gokana).
Others are Thomas Bari-Ere (Khana); George Ariolu (Obio-Akpor); Vincent Nwaobakata (Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni); Vincent Nemiebokata (Ogu/Bolo); Akuro Tobin (Okrika); Enyiada Cookey-Gam (Opobo/Nkoro); Okechukwu Akara (Oyigbo); Allwell Ihunda (Port Harcourt) and Mbakpone Okpe (Tai).
Local Government Council Chairmen who picked the party’s ticket for second term in office include Daniel O. Daniel (Abua/Odual); Ben Eke (Ahoada East); Hope Ikiriko (Ahoada West); Rowland Sekibo (Akuku Toru); David Irimagha (Bonny); Obinna Anyanwu (Etche); Samuel Nwanosike (Ikwerre) and Chisom Christian (Omuma).
