April LG Polls:  Rivers’ Unity Demonstrated Through Ballot – Dum Dekor

The member representing Khana/Gokana constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor, has described the overwhelming victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Local Government Elections in Rivers State,as an affirmation of the love and unity binding the people of the State.

The federal lawmaker who fielded questions from journalists in Abuja at the weekend, said Rivers people used the instrumentality of the PDP to speak with one voice which led to the landslide victory by the party on April 17, 2021.

Stating that opposition in Rivers State only exists in the social media with occasional appearance on the print media also, Rt. Hon. Dekor said this development prompted the mass exodus of remnant members of the opposition parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the weeks leading to the just ended local government polls in the State.

Rt. Hon. Dekor said Rivers people decided to go where they found what they were looking for, adding, “The victory you see is as a result of the performance of the Governor.  Even the campaigns you saw were just like going to say hello to the people because the programmes and policies of the Governor had spoken volume”.

He went on:  “The people have decided to remain with the party that they know and not the party that would tell you they would construct a bridge where there’s no river, and even where attempt is made to start, they would never complete it, or won’t even start it in the first place”.

The federal lawmaker, a former Commissioner for Works as well as former Deputy Speaker in the House of Assembly, decried a situation where the federal government’s projects for the State are only seen on the pages of newspapers, and queried why the people would not react by rejecting the APC or any other party other than the PDP where Governor Wike has turned the State into a massive construction site.

“So, when you see things like that, what do you want the people to do?  They have to speak through the ballot.  And I can assure you that what you saw on Saturday, will be something different in 2023 because the people are ready.

“In 2023, like I have always said, they should bring all the guns as they have always done in Rivers State.  The ballots would still speak very resolutely and sound.  This last election is a clear message to all Nigerians that the 23 Local Government Areas and 319 Wards of Rivers State is PDP.  And for those kites who want to come and perch and do the things they are used to doing, the peoples resistance has always been there and will always be there”, the federal lawmaker affirmed.

On the state of the nation, Rt. Hon. Dekor regretted the unsavory conditions that have bedeviled every sector of the economy.  He also bemoaned the state of insecurity disunity from Nigerians of all divide.

“Nigerians have never been so separated, never so disunited for the very first time.  I’m surprised that even before the civil war, we’ve never got to this level.  I was fortunate and privileged to attend a Federal Government College, a micro Nigeria where your best friends come from any other section of the country.

“That relationship has been broken.  There’s a very big gouge that has been created by this administration.  I make bold to say so because Nigerians are no longer together.  There’s so much hunger in the land.  You read how the alleged printing of N60bn.  It’s like we are living on falsehood.

“Every day, this administration struggles to correct one story or the other.  So, you begin to wonder, where are the Okonjo-Iwealas. People they said could not run the economy of Nigeria is the same people this administration is projecting to high heavens.

“We need square pegs in square holes.  That is the gospel truth.  You don’t fill spaces with those who don’t have capacity to fill those spaces.  Nigerians are all over the places, very excellently qualified, highly intelligent people.  Yet we find in some offices people filling spaces that ordinarily shouldn’t be there”, he fumed.
