RSG Taskforce Confirms Public Compliance To Sanity
The Rivers State Government Taskforce Committee on illegal Motor Parks and street trading has acknowledged that there is public compliance to their campaign of law and order in the society so far.
Speaking with newsmen, the coordinator of the taskforce, DSP Felix Nwadibeyi (rtd) said apart from the initial resistance of the public to their campaign for orderliness, there is some form of compliance which had led to sanity on the road by drivers as well as illegal street traders.
He disclosed that they started by warning the offenders and graduated to seizing the traders wares while the tyres of abandoned vehicles of the drivers were being deflated.
“All these did not deter the offenders until we introduced the prosecution of offenders. We have arrested and prosecuted over 20 persons since the exercise started in addition to reaching out to their union leaders for support which has really paid off too”, he stated.
The coordinator also observed that the offenders would be doing their illegal businesses but take to their heels as soon as they sight the taskforce members which confirms that they are aware of their illegal activities.
He however, promised that the taskforce committee is focused and committed and will not relent until the illegal activities of this dissident group of the society are completely dismantled in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
