Seamstress Dreams Designing For Genevieve, Omotola, Others

A Port Harcourt based fashion designer, Miss Nnenna Melete says her objective is to have her products modeled by top celebrities in the film and music industries.  But she adds that the sky would be her limit if given the needed capital for expansion.

Brimming with confidence during a recent interview with National Network in Port Harcourt, Miss Malete firmed her optimism that it’s only a matter of time and Port Harcourt would become the hub for the fashion industry and take up her place as Nigeria’s Fashion City.

“Aside the unwavering passion for my job as a fashion designer and styling, I am a movie freak and has a whole lot of actresses I admire.  I love their sense of fashion. The likes of Genevieve, Omotola, Iniedo etc.

“Creatively I’m doing great and can design stuffs good enough for these great stars.  I’m already clothing some models but I want to up my game and pin my labels on these stars earlier mentioned”, she enthused.

The elegant, pretty seamstress who runs the Necky Jesus Fashion Center in Elioparanwo, Port Harcourt, said her major challenge remains finance which is needed to procure the needed equipments and larger space to accommodate her trainees.

Miss Malete regretted that decades down the line, importation of foreign wears continues to boom in Nigeria, a situation that could be reversed if local fashion designers are given the right motivation and enabling environment.

“I understand that banks and government at both state and federal levels give out soft loans for small and medium scale entrepreneurs.  And there is also the Bank of Industry, but my appeal is that people like us should be considered for the loans”, she urged, adding that fashion designers have what it takes to impact positively on the economy and improve the nation’s GDP.
