Allwell Onyesoh Clinches Senatorial Ticket, Lists Priority Areas If Elected
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Allwell Onyesoh has spelt out areas he would concentrate if elected to represent his Rivers East Senatorial District people in the senate in next year’s election.
Hon. Onyesoh listed his areas of priority in an interview with newsmen after he was declared winner of the PDP Senatorial primary election held on Monday May 23 at the Port Harcourt City Council Secretariat.
Top on his agenda is the moribund Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and how to make it functional for economic viability.
He told journalists that he would find out what went wrong with the port and look for a way to fix it in order to ensure that Rivers people participate effectively in marine business.
He recalled that in the past when the ports were functional Rivers people derived huge economic benefits from them.
He also promised to make a case for the inclusion of Rivers indigenes, particularly the people of his senatorial district in oil business, saying a situation where people who own oil wells were sidelined in oil business is not acceptable.
The PDP senatorial candidate for Rivers East said he will find out if there was a law that prohibits people from participating in oil business going on in their backyard and seek amendments to such laws.
Our correspondent reports that Rivers East Senatorial District is made up of eight local government areas, ie, PHALGA, Obio/Akpor, Emohua, Ikwerre, Ogu Bolo, Etche, Omuma and Okrika, stressing that if Hon. Allwell Onyesoh succeeds in the general elections, he would replace Senator George Thompson Sekibo who had been in that position in the Senate.
