One Year In Office: Tai Council Chairman Gives Account Of Stewardship
The Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State, Sir Mbakpone Okpe, Friday, declared that his one year in office has been purposeful, transparent and accountable which has transformed the local government to an enviable height.
Giving an account of his stewardship on Wednesday, June 2022, at Saakpenwa during a stakeholders’ meeting as part of activities marking his one year in office, he said he has recorded great strides in the last one year and is sure of delivering on all his electioneering promises.
He said before he took over as the chairman of the council, the judicial system, particularly the High Court had totally collapsed and his people couldn’t get access to justice except they go to Port Harcourt. But now they have unfettered access to the halls of justice at the High Court without spending money to go to Port Harcourt, he stressed.
The council boss, rolled out some milestones recorded by his administration and other plans he has in stock for his people, some of which include the settlement of communal crisis, peace and security with the provision of effective security architecture in Tai, human capacity development, environmental sanitation, economic empowerment, infrastructural development, health, education and lots more.
He has also launched the Tai Education and Health Scheme with the intention to recruit adhoc teachers and health workers that will fill the vacancies created by retired staff of those sectors.
He therefore called on sons and daughters of Tai in the teaching profession to volunteer for such service to humanity and that such persons would be catered for by the council for the service.
He recounted other achievements of his administration to include payment of bursary to students of higher learning, recruitment of youths into the security agencies, regular payment of salaries and the health insurance scheme.
Hon. Okpe said the successes recorded in his one year in office were made possible with the cooperation of the Paramount Rulers of the various communities, youths, opinion leaders and the clergymen who went on their knees to pray for the success of his administration and appealed for more support.
HRM, King Godwin Gininwa, President Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers and Tabonemene of Tai Kingdom, praised the Tai Council Chairman for offering the people of Tai purposeful leadership and sued for cooperation and peaceful Tai. “Let us love and cherish ourselves because without peace, no development will come from the State government and the chairman cannot perform,” he noted.
Some of the dignitaries at the occasion include among others, the former chairman of the local government, Hon. Jacobson Nbina, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Matt Dike, HRH, Mene Samuel Nne Gbenemene of Tua-Tua Tai.
