Dumo In Talks With Rivers Students, As Bursary, Loans Top Agenda
Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the Rivers State governorship candidate of Accord in next year general election has held an interactive session with the students community from higher institutions in the State, with a promise to provide a complete value re-orientation to students and the youths if voted to power.
He told the students at the Lemaco Event Center venue of the event, along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt that he would tell them the truth at all times, and in a manner they would understand.
“I will speak the truth to you. I will tell you the rightness and wrongness of your actions. I will speak the truth in a way you will understand. We will be transparent because you are our tomorrow, you are our future and we need to invest in you”, he told the students.
Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs promised to create a scheme that will give loans to students so that the ones who may face financial challenges would not have any reason to drop out of school.
Chief Lulu Briggs disclosed that his government will ensure that students get jobs after graduation, to enable them pay back the loans and also aid them in acquiring skills.
He also promised to ensure regular payment of bursary to students while assuring quality education for everybody, including the children of the poor and the rich.
He said: “We will educate the next generation. We will take education to every home. Education will be accessible and relevant to the need of the society. They should be rest assured that they are the constituency we shall constantly engage. I am going to engage with them quite actively to ensure everything is done to ensure they are great women and men that we want them to become, and through their greatness, Rivers State shall be great”.
The Accord standard bearer said students have the strength to decide who governs them in them in the State, urging them to use their PVC to ‘take it by force’.
“We have to mobilize Rivers people so we can liberate ourselves from things that have held us captive. Bread winners cannot find bread to feed home. We cannot be deficient in courage to cast our vote. We must be driven by our conviction. You can do it, I can do it. We have to do it. I shall work my heart out and put my hands in the mud for all of us. We shall provide homes and business you shall call you own. We shall provide rule of law that grantee freedom and health care that cares.
“We shall move Rivers State from a one city state to multi city state to ensure development in other areas”, he said.
The Accord Governorship Candidate announced a donation of Five Million Naira to the Department in the higher institution that the drama group which performed at the occasion came from, with another One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira to the drama crew.
Chairman, Forum of Student’s Union Government (SUG) in Rivers State, who is also the SUG President in UNIPORT, Gift Ubabuike, commended Chief Lulu-Briggs for the positive impact he has made in all campuses in the state.
Ubabuike while recalling the renovation of the SUG Secretariat of UNIPORT by Chief Lulu Briggs, added “This is a time to make change by supporting a man that has the students at heart”.
Ogan Precious, a former student leader also disclosed that Dumo Lulu Briggs came to his aid at his darkest hour. He explained that he was frustrated and nearly dropped out of school but that Chief Lulu Briggs sent him school fees even when he did not know him.
Similarly, Hannah Augustus, the President of National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) at the Rivers State College of Health and Management Technology said the Accord Governorship candidate has done so much for students that is worthy of gratitude from the students community.
