The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has called for equal political space for all party faithful to support and campaign for candidates of their choice ahead of the 2023 elections in the state.
Nigeria, he said, has come of age democratically and will no longer condone the mistakes of the past where ‘carry go’ appeared to be the fashion as the people are prepared more than ever to exercise their rights in voting for the leaders of their choice.
Sen Abe was speaking during a thanksgiving church service at St. Barth’s Church, Bera Deanery Headquarters, Gokana Local Government Area on Sunday, August 7, 2022.
The celebration was in appreciation of God’s favours and enablement to clinch the governorship ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Rivers 2023 guber poll. A grateful heart, he said is the gateway to greatness.
Sen Abe noted that it was only God that could see him through all the obstacles he faced in his bid to actualize his dream of winning a ticket to contest the 2023 governorship election, stressing that same God would see him through the election successfully.
He described the SDP as a party that means well for the people and parades the best candidates that have what it takes to offer an alternative choice to the people.
The Ogoni-born politician and immediate senator that represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly gave kudos to the leadership of the SDP in the state for giving him the opportunity to fly their governorship flag in the state and promised to live up to their expectations and the ideals of the party.
He however, remanded the teeming supporters that getting the party ticket is just the beginning of the task ahead and urged them to work harder and pray for a peaceful and successful outing.
“We should also be peaceful in our conduct before, during and after the elections. Do not harass anybody because everybody has the right to support whoever they so wish,” Sen Abe warned.
Sen Abe noted that everybody wishing to lead Rivers State is doing so because he or she wants to see a better Rivers State where people will be gainfully employed, where there is light, good roads, functional educational system and not where people will be sad, miserable and disenchanted.
He promised as a man of ideas to come up with ideas that will convince the electorate to board the SDP vehicle that is out to lead the state to a better destination where they will be happy and self-fulfilled.
Hon. Solsuema Osara, the State Chairman of SDP in his speech, described Sen. Abe as a servant leader who has shown that human life has meaning, who believes in humanity, adding that having someone like Abe shows that the party is blessed.
He said he is very optimistic that Sen Abe is the man that will take Rivers State to the next level, stressing Abe is the one that will transform human lives into meaningful ends and called on all and sundry to work for the actualization of this dream come 2023, so as to lay the foundation that can never be removed by the injustice in our society today.
