Youths Clash With PHED Officials Over Disconnection

Youths at National Street, Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt, clashed with officials of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company(PHED) who came to disconnect power supply of customers said to be owing last Monday.

An eyewitness told our reporter that trouble started when the youths asked the PHED officials to drop the idea of disconnecting energy customers on the grounds that there had been  total black out in the area for at least three weeks.

The source disclosed that the youths reportedly seized the ladder the PHED officials used to climb the electric pole to disconnect the power supply.

Residents revealed that the timely intervention of an elder in the community prevented the issue from degenerating.

The source said that the youths returned the ladder to the PHED officials following the intervention of the community elder and the electricity workers left the area immediately the ladder was being given to them.

National Network had reported how PHED officials allegedly brought in soldiers to carry out disconnection of power supply owing to light bills at Okwuzu Street in Mile 1, Diobu after youths chased them out of the area while on mass disconnection.
