Fear Grips Commuters Over Kidnap Of Occupants Of Vehicles Plying East-West Road

Palpable fear has gripped among commuters plying the Emohua axis of the East West Road following the kidnap of occupants of three vehicles along Evekwu-Rumuodogo in Emohua Local Government of Rivers State last Thursday night.

The commuters are now shunning night journeys as a safety measure to beat the human traffickers.

The suspected gunmen reportedly diverted the passengers to a nearby forest in the area shortly after they succeeded in ambushing the vehicles.

A member of a local vigilante group in the area who confirmed the incident said occupants of a commercial bus fully loaded, a driver of a Sienna carrying goods and another private vehicle were kidnapped at gunpoint within Evekwu-Rumuodogo axis of East West road.

Our source could not ascertain the exact number of the kidnapped victims.

The victims were returning from Port Harcourt when the gunmen ambushed them about 9pm and marched them into the nearby forest at gunpoint

The vigilante personnel said they managed to trace the footsteps  of the kidnappers after the incident occurred but could not continue due to some circumstances beyond their control.

The Rumuji Divisional Police Headquarters has visited the scene but the Rivers State Police command was yet to speak on the incident as at press time.

Recall that suspected Kidnappers had abducted five passengers of a commercial vehicle along Emohua/Kalabari road three weeks ago.
