SUN NEWSPAPER MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD: Gov Wike Can Salvage Nigeria  – Obuah

Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, Bro Felix Obuah says he is not surprised that Governor Nyesom Wike has won the Sun Newspaper highest award, MAN OF THE YEAR.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike had also won the Sun Newspaper GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR, back to back in previous years.

According to Obuah, the reason for deserving such place of honour is not farfetched in the light of the infrastructural revolution taking place in Rivers State powered by Governor Wike and which in the years past, were thought impossible.

Gov Wike, the RIWAMA boss and Ikemba Idemili of Anambra State noted, has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubts that if given the opportunity, can get Nigeria moving again.

Describing Gov Wike as a visionary and pragmatic leader, Bro Obuah said Gov Wike has not only demonstrated capacity but also exhibited true understanding of democracy by confronting development and political issues head-on.

He said one of such democratic imperatives and true federalism is the issue of Value Added Tax (VAT) which Gov Wike has held the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government spell-bound, providing a morale booster for other State governors to follow suit.

Bro Obuah recalled other anti-social issues which Gov Wike as the man who saw tomorrow pointed out which if they were embraced by the rest of the country would have saved Nigeria the calamity and losses eventually suffered.

One of such, he said, were the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Nigeria Police which notoriety forced the Nigerian youths to embark on one of the bloodiest protests in the nation’s history.

“When Gov Wike raised alarm and was shouting, little or no attention was given to his concerns. Had the authorities cared, a whole lot of losses would have been avoided, but rather than do that, his genuine concerns were politicized and trivialized until they snowballed into a national crisis. So is the case of VAT for which the federal government is seeing Gov Wike as hitting the air”, Bro Obuah regretted.

Bro Obuah however, finds solace in the fact that some sections of the critical media are alive to the realities on ground and still have the boldness to appreciate quality leadership and contributions of the like of Gov Nyesom Wike and consider him most qualified for honour as exemplified by the Sun Newspaper Man of the Year Award.

Congratulating Gov Wike on the Sun Newspaper Man of the Year Award, Bro Obuah said the honour represents the collective wish and appreciation of the people since the media are the voice of the masses.

He urged the teeming Rivers people and Nigerians generally to learn to appreciate and encourage those who show distinction in their service delivery like Gov Nyesom Wike through their support and prayers.

The prestigious Sun Newspaper Man of the Year Award will be conferred on Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
